NINE RESCUED AS THREE STORY BUILDING COLLAPSE IN LAGOS 

A three-storey building collapsed early Saturday morning on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos, trapping several individuals inside. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. and involved a structure that housed a popular eatery, Equal Right Restaurant, on the ground floor.

Emergency responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were promptly deployed to the scene and had, by 2 p.m., rescued nine individuals from the rubble. All rescued victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were treated at the scene by the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) before being transported to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts. Speaking through the agency's spokesman, Shakiru Amodu, she stated that no fatalities had been recorded as of press time. She also noted that the ground floor of the collapsed building was actively in use, while the upper floors were unoccupied.

“The building is old and was not under any form of construction at the time of collapse,” Adeseye said. “We have always cautioned against leaving buildings unoccupied for extended periods, as this can compromise their structural integrity.”

She added that while the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, investigations are underway to establish the circumstances leading to the incident. Rescue teams are continuing operations to ensure no one remains trapped beneath the debris.

“Everything is under control as we speak. There is no cause for alarm,” Adeseye assured.
